Containerized Housing
Steel shipping containers come in sizes from 8x10 to 8x50 feet and 8 or 9 feet high, they are used mostly to ship merchandise on ships and trains. They are so costly to return, they usuely pile up in ports and shipping terminals. Mostly the 40 foot models are the most common. They are made from exotic metals to resist rusting from salt water and have ruber based paint, almost air tight with the exception of a couple of vents, You can put 50,000 pounds in them and stack them 5 high and only support them on the four corners ... and they are cheap.
I lived on a small sailboat most of my life, so I chose a 20 foor container to build my house from. As it turned out, it ended up being just rite. Most people prefer a 40 footer or several 40 footers fastened together. On mine I chose to permanently open the doors and use them for walls and make mine 24 feet by8 feet. Here are the side and end view during constrauction. I parked the truck nect to it so you can get abetter idea about how small it really is, but that is just an ilusion till you see the inside.

I guess you noticed, no windows. Well, I got a different aproach to that. Windows let out heat and cooling. I do get frsh air through vents. I am only in the house to sleep, eat, work on the computer, watch tv or read. I don't come inside to look out through a window, especialy when the view never changes.
I am goiung to get a couple of woodem windows, refinish them and hang them on the wall like a paining. Behind the window frame I will have some different views, like the ocean, mountains and desert. At least the view will change. I will also put a couple on the outside with a picture of curtains to make the neighbors happy. As for light, I use a desk lamp anyhow because of my eyes. All my lights are 12 volt DC florescent and LED powered by my solar system which provides most of my power.

That is a recliner in the foreground. See, I got plenty of room.

I saw this unfinished headboard in a yeardsale and brought it home and stained it and made this computer desk out of it since it was smaller than the desk I already had.

And finally, here is the view out my front door. Isn't it great.
